Christmas gifts
Thanks to the generous gifts from students:
This next present was found on my front porch covered in snow. I have no idea who gave it to me, but I love it! Thanks so much.

December 19th
Dear First Graders and
Parents,
As you already know, we only
have two school days this week and then we have time off for Christmas
Vacation. We return to school on January
2nd, 2017! I hope that you
find time for enjoying your families and to relax together.
We are running low on tissues
in the classroom and on disinfecting wipes. This is the season of illness and
the passing of germs, so we use both of these items daily! If anyone can donate any of these, it would
be greatly appreciated.
We will NOT have a spelling
list or any homework this week. Please
enjoy your holiday. It would be helpful,
as always, if you can have your children read during the break. The more time your child spends in reading,
the better reader he/she will become!
We are starting to work on
long vowel words. This is more
challenging for many of the students.
They have to watch for “sneaky silent e” making the vowel change its’
sound!
We have covered addition and
subtraction up to 20 thoroughly and practicing that skill would be extremely
helpful as well. We finished our 6th
topic in math, which was working with data sets. We will be working with counting and writing
to 120 after Christmas. I can’t believe
that we are close to 2nd term ending and that means that we are half
way through 1st grade!
Several of the students have
brought me gifts, so I would like to send out a quick thank you. It is so thoughtful of you to think of me at
this holiday time.
Again, may you find joy and
happiness and be able to spend some good time together as we end 2016 and head
into the new year of 2017!

Letters from Santa
My first graders received letters from Santa Claus at school today. They were delighted by the things Santa told each of them. It was priceless to watch their faces light up. Special thanks to Santa's elves for making this happen!
